Alice Buckner
Background
What did she do before consulting? How did she become a consultant?
Before establishing her consulting practice in 1996, Alice Buckner had roles in marketing, office administration and health administration. She later worked for two of California’s largest health care associations with responsibility for industry-wide professional development initiatives. She interfaced with health systems, government, academia, the public, vendors, and affiliated specialists. She also served as a Business & Management program manager at University Extension, University of California, Davis with responsibility for 14 programs. Her programs and conferences received acclaim. She worked with nationally recognized specialists in several important disciplines and emerging business specialties. She searched for best practices in Northern California business, identifying executives to serve as content advisors and faculty, furthering her own learning process even further. This exposed her to many of the progressive practices taking place in winning companies that continue to inspire businesspeople worldwide.
Some of the curricula involved the field of organization development, and Alice found her calling. She earned her masters in human resources and organization development from the University of San Francisco in 1998. She founded the Northern California chapter of the Organization Development Network, recruiting 166 colleagues to join in the first year. She was a research intern at The Workplace Institute, now the Center for Collaborative Solutions, which received funding from a foundation grant and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. At TWI Alice had the opportunity to learn from leading employers and some of the nation’s top experts in labor relations, negotiation, workplace behavior, mediation and conflict resolution.
At the start of her practice Alice served a number of prestigious clients with excellent results. Later in 1998 the practice was relocated to New Hampshire. To date, Alice has worked with board members, CEO’s, entrepreneurs, executives, middle managers, supervisors, and line employees. She has worked with individuals, teams, regional operations, and global networks. Her clients have included government, academia, non-profit, Fortune 100 business, family business and venture capitalized start-ups. Alice has had in-depth exposure to a number of industries including health care, insurance, banking, food processing, manufacturing, economic development, business-to-business services, high tech, retail and education.
